Vinay Dube Akasa Air

Vinay Dube has been the ex-CEO of Go Air & Jet Airways. At present, he is the co-founder and CEO of Akasa Air backed by the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, a multi-billionaire who was popularly known as the Big Bull of India.

Education

It’s doubtful whether his early education happened in India or US. However, later in his academic career, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics from Know College, Illinois. He then visited the University of North Carolina and completed his master’s degree in Operations.

Personal Life

Nothing much is known about his parents and siblings. He is an Indian by ethnicity and belongs to Mumbai natively. He has a wife and three children.

Career

Dube has been a veteran in the airline industry and was associated with American airlines during the inception of his career. He then switched his role with Sabre Inc where he held multiple positions. After a successful career at Delta Airlines, he returned to India and joined Jet Airways in the year 2017. Later when Jet Airways made multiple financial losses and was almost on the brink of bankruptcy, Dube resigned from his position. Later, he became the CEO of GoAir but resigned from his position in just about 6 months due to clashes with the board members. During the pandemic in 2020, he approached multiple investors to kick-start a new ultra-low-cost airline in India called ‘Akasa Airlines’. Investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala pledged a $35 million investment for a stake of 40% in the company. Akasa airlines have placed an order with Boeing for the 737 Max aircraft. They are aiming for 70 such airplanes in the next 4 to 5 years.
